Telegram launches a new local currency called Telegram Stars

Mini-app owners on Telegram can accept payments in Stars for their digital goods and services, which can then be converted into Toncoin

Telegram has just introduced a new local currency called ‘Telegram Stars,’ which can be used to pay for purchases and services on Telegram mini-apps

Users can purchase Stars directly on Telegram or through the Apple and Google app markets.

Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, stated that soon, developers will be able to withdraw Stars and convert them into Toncoin (TON) through the Fragment exchange.

Durov also revealed that Telegram will subsidize ads purchased with Stars on Apple and Google, both of which charge a 30% commission on digital product sales. Durov affirmed:

If developers reinvest Stars in app promotion, the overall commission is nearly zero. Therefore, launching on Telegram is more economical than launching a traditional mobile app

According to statistics, more than 400 million out of 900 million users interact with bots and mini-apps on Telegram every month. Special mention should be made of the success of Notcoin, with the Tap-to-Earn title amassing 35 million users in its first five months. Following its recent listing on many major exchanges, the price of NOT has increased by 50%, with trading volume ranking 4th in the entire market.

Additionally, the parent coin TON has maintained resilience in recent times. TON just hit an all-time high (ATH) of 7.8 USD on June 5, thanks to the news of its listing on Robinhood
